Hindsight

In the series of works photographed by the artist, Hindsight questions digitization as a secure means of archival. The images, taken digitally by the artist, are of the artist's close friends, family, and self. The pictures have been scanned, transferred, and/or embroidered to transcend the rote confinements of digital photography mediums - bringing forth elements of craft and the handmade to offer an intimate and physical alternative to preserving memories and experiences.

Retracing the Syllables of My Mother's Tongue

As a first-generation immigrant, Retracing the Syllables of My Mother's Tongue reflects the artist's experiences of displacement and disconnection from her Vietnamese background. Working with layers of gesso transfers and image transfers using found imagery from Vietnamese-Canadian newspapers, the artist attempts to provide a visual diary of the feelings of grief and fragmented memory. In doing so, she dissects and preserves her brief, fading childhood memories of living in Saigon.
